When it comes to postal services, the terminology and regulations can sometimes be a bit tricky to navigate. Take, for example, the distinction between acknowledgment cards and proof of delivery (POD) for different types of mail.
For registered post, the acknowledgment card, priced at 3 rupees, serves as proof of delivery and is exclusively meant for the addressee. However, for speed post articles, we don’t refer to it as an acknowledgment but rather as POD, costing 10 rupees per POD. This distinction is governed by Rules 66B II (iv) of IPO Rules 1933, as outlined in GSR 734(E) in the post office guide.
Speed post articles are typically door or address-specific, meaning they can be delivered to any individual at the specified address. However, there’s a notable exception when it comes to passport delivery. Even though passport delivery falls under speed post, it must adhere to the rule of being delivered exclusively to the addressee at the mentioned address only
Understanding these nuances ensures efficient and accurate handling of postal items, particularly when it comes to important documents like passports.
So here is the brief.
i) Charges for POD aka Proof of delivery under Speed Post in India Post is Rs.10/-+gst
ii) Charges for an “acknowledgment card” under Registered Post/Parcel is Rs.3/-
