Key Points to Know About Post Office ATM Card Expiration

Post Office ATM cards, including those issued by the Department of Posts (DoP), are valid for five years. The first set of EMV chip-based ATM cards was introduced in June 2017, meaning that cards issued during that time expired on 30th June 2022. Now, if your card has expired, here’s how you can renew it without any extra charges.

Follow these steps to get your expired ATM card renewed:

  1. Visit Your Home SOL Post Office: It is mandatory to visit your home SOL (Single Operating Location) Post Office where your savings account is maintained to initiate the ATM card renewal process.
  2. Submit the Required Documents:
    • Fill out and submit an ATM card issuance form.
    • Attach either your expired ATM card or its photocopy (attested by you) for official record-keeping.
  3. Verification Process: The Postal Assistant (PA) will check the expiration date mentioned on your ATM card to confirm it has expired.
  4. Card Hot-Listing and Replacement: After verifying the expiration date, the counter PA will:
    • Hot-list (deactivate) the expired ATM card.
    • Use the Finacle system to invoke the card replacement option and issue a new ATM card.
  5. No Renewal Charges for Expired Cards: There are no charges for replacing expired Post Office ATM cards. However, if the card was lost, blocked, or hot-listed before expiration, replacement fees, as outlined in circulars dated 15th September 2021 and 3rd November 2021, will apply.
  6. Fees for Card Loss or Damage: If your card is being replaced due to damage, loss, or other issues caused by you, standard charges for card replacement will be applied according to existing rates.
  7. What If You Don’t Have the Expired Card? If you’ve misplaced or destroyed the expired card, don’t worry. The Postal Assistant can verify your card’s expiration date using a list provided by the National ATM unit.

Important Guidelines for Post Office ATM Card Renewal

  • Ensure you visit the correct Post Office branch (home SOL).
  • Bring your expired card or a photocopy for easy verification.
  • There’s no need to pay for the renewal of expired cards, but lost or damaged cards may incur fees.
