Notification

Subject: Revision of the Schedule of Engaging Authority, Disciplinary Authority, and Appellate Authority for Gramin Dak Sevaks (GDS) – reg.

The Department of Posts is currently reviewing the existing structure related to the Engaging Authority, Disciplinary Authority, and Appellate Authority for all categories of Gramin Dak Sevaks (GDS).

In view of major procedural reforms in the GDS engagement system and evolving administrative needs, a revised schedule is proposed as follows:

Proposed Schedule of Authorities

Office Where Working Engaging Authority Disciplinary Authority Appellate Authority
Divisions/Units/Independent Units
e.g., Postal, RMS, MMS, Foreign Post, PSD, Sorting Office, Mail Office etc., headed by officers below JAG level (PS Group B and below up to STS level)
Head of Division/Unit/Independent Unit Head of Division/Unit/Independent Unit PMG (if no DPS post at RO) / DPS Concerned / DPS Region
For Minor Penalties in above units Same as above Sr. Postmaster / Dy. Chief Postmaster / Supdt (Sorting) or equivalent
Sub-Divisional Head / Equivalent in RMS/Other Offices
Head of Division/Unit/Independent Unit
Divisions/Units/Independent Units headed by JAG level and above Dy. Director (equivalent to JTS/STS) / Assistant Director or officers equivalent to PS Group B Dy. Director (equivalent to JTS/STS) / Assistant Director or officers equivalent to PS Group B Head of Division/Unit/Independent Unit
For Minor Penalties in above units Same as above Sr. Postmaster / Dy. Chief Postmaster / Supdt (Sorting) or equivalent
Sub-Divisional Head / Equivalent in RMS/Other Offices
Head of Division/Unit/Independent Unit

Action Requested:

All Chief Postmasters General are requested to furnish their comments or suggestions on the above proposal by 29.04.2025.

If no response is received from a Circle within the stipulated date, it will be assumed that the Circle has no objections to the proposed structure and agrees to the changes.
